1. Who we are

The Quiet Between is an independent editorial project operated by Juliette Pasquet, based in Florida, United States. It offers essays, reflections, photographs, written and audio work, newsletters, and related editorial content.

This Privacy Policy applies to The Quiet Between’s principal website at https://thequietbetween.space, its editorial publication at https://read.thequietbetween.space and any associated Substack address, and related emails and communications (together, the “Services”).

2. Information we collect

We may collect the following categories of information:

Information you provide directly. This includes your email address, name or profile name, subscription preferences, messages you send, responses to surveys or forms, comments, and other information you choose to provide.

Subscription and transaction information. This includes whether you are a free, paid, or founding subscriber; subscription dates and status; and limited transaction information made available by Substack or its payment provider. Payments, if offered, are processed by third-party payment providers. The Quiet Between does not receive or store your complete payment-card number.

Engagement information. This may include posts and emails viewed, links clicked, email opens, subscription conversions, likes, comments, restacks, and other interactions with the Services.

Technical information. This may include IP address, browser and device type, operating system, referring pages, approximate location derived from IP address, timestamps, diagnostic logs, and cookie or similar technology data collected by the platforms and service providers that operate the Services.

Public information. If you post a public comment, profile, restack, or other public contribution, that information may be visible to other users.

3. How we collect information

We collect information:

• • automatically when you use the Services or interact with an email;
• • from Substack and other service providers that help operate the Services; and
• • from publicly available sources when appropriate.

4. How we use information

We use information to:

• • provide, operate, maintain, and secure the Services;
• • deliver newsletters, posts, audio, and other content you request;
• • manage subscriptions, payments, and subscriber communications;
• • respond to questions, privacy requests, and support inquiries;
• • understand readership and improve the editorial and technical experience;
• • prevent fraud, abuse, spam, and security incidents;
• • comply with legal obligations and enforce applicable terms; and
• • protect the rights, safety, and integrity of The Quiet Between, its readers, and others.

We do not use personal information to make automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects.

5. Legal bases for processing

Where European Economic Area or United Kingdom data-protection law applies, we rely on one or more of the following legal bases:

• • performance of a contract, such as providing a subscription you requested;
• • consent, including for optional marketing or non-essential tracking where consent is legally required;
• • legitimate interests, such as operating, securing, and improving an independent editorial publication, provided those interests are not overridden by your rights; and
• • compliance with legal obligations.

You may withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing that occurred before withdrawal.

6. Email communications and tracking

If you subscribe, we may send editorial emails, service notices, and other communications associated with your subscription. You can unsubscribe from marketing or editorial emails at any time by using the unsubscribe link in the email or by adjusting your Substack settings. We may still send essential transactional or administrative messages when necessary.

Substack may use cookies, pixels, and similar technologies to measure email opens, link clicks, page views, and subscription activity. Some email programs may limit the accuracy of these measurements.

7. Cookies and similar technologies

The Services and their providers may use cookies, local storage, pixels, logs, and similar technologies for essential operation, security, preferences, performance, and audience measurement.

At the effective date of this Policy, The Quiet Between does not intentionally add Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Meta/Facebook Pixel, X/Twitter Pixel, Parse.ly, or advertising trackers to its Substack publication. The main website may generate limited technical and performance data through its hosting and security infrastructure.

If non-essential analytics, advertising, or profiling technologies are introduced, this Policy and any required consent mechanism will be updated before or when those technologies are activated.

Browser signals such as “Do Not Track” are not interpreted consistently across the internet. Where legally required and technically supported, we will honor applicable opt-out preference signals, including the Global Privacy Control.

8. How we share information

We may share personal information only as reasonably necessary with:

• • Substack, which hosts the editorial publication, manages subscriptions and email delivery, and may process information under its own privacy policy;
• • payment processors such as Stripe if paid subscriptions are offered;
• • website hosting and development providers, including Lovable;
• • domain and infrastructure providers, including Squarespace;
• • email and productivity providers, including Google Workspace;
• • professional advisers, contractors, and vendors bound by appropriate confidentiality or data-protection obligations;
• • authorities or other parties when required by law or reasonably necessary to protect rights, safety, and security; and
• • a successor in connection with a merger, reorganization, sale, or transfer of the project, subject to applicable law.

These providers may process information in countries other than your own.

We do not sell personal information. We do not rent subscriber lists. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising or targeted advertising as those terms are defined under applicable U.S. state privacy laws.

9. Substack and other third-party services

When you use the Substack-hosted publication, Substack may act as an independent controller for some activities and as a service provider or processor for others. Substack’s own privacy policy and terms also apply to its platform-level processing.

The Services may contain links or embeds from third parties, including podcast, music, social-media, and payment platforms. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies. We encourage you to review them before providing information.

10. International data transfers

The Quiet Between is operated from the United States, and its providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Where required, providers may rely on approved contractual safeguards or other lawful transfer mechanisms. By using the Services, you understand that information may be processed outside your country of residence, subject to applicable law.

11. Data retention

We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including providing subscriptions, maintaining records, resolving disputes, enforcing agreements, meeting legal obligations, and protecting security.

Retention periods vary by the type of information and the systems used. You may request deletion, subject to lawful exceptions and technical limitations. Unsubscribing stops future editorial emails but may not immediately remove information that must be retained for legal, security, or recordkeeping purposes.

12. Data security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures appropriate to the nature of the information and the size of the project. No online service or method of transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

13. Your choices and privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:

• • request access to personal information;
• • request correction or deletion;
• • receive a portable copy of certain information;
• • object to or restrict certain processing;
• • withdraw consent;
• • opt out of marketing communications;
• • appeal a decision concerning a privacy request; and
• • lodge a complaint with an appropriate data-protection authority.

Residents of jurisdictions with applicable U.S. state privacy laws may also have rights concerning targeted advertising, sale, profiling, and sensitive-data processing. The Quiet Between does not currently sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising.

To make a privacy request, email privacy@thequietbetween.space. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request. You may use an authorized agent where permitted by law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right.

You can also manage many subscription and account settings directly through Substack.

14. Children’s privacy

The Services are not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact privacy@thequietbetween.space so that we can review and, where appropriate, delete it.

15. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in the Services, providers, or applicable law. The updated version will be posted with a revised effective date. If a change is material, we will provide additional notice when reasonably appropriate.
